JACS Recipients and Trustees 2011 (Photo: Steven Wong)
The Japanese
American Community
Services of Southern California (JACS) provides financial support to
"emerging" groups and projects in the greater Los Angeles area, with a
focus on community service, health and human services, cultural arts
and leadership development. JACS, which celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2011, traces its history back to the
Shonien, a Japanese children's orphanage founded in 1912. We celebrate the Shonien's 100th anniversary in 2012.
Funding Cycle Hiatus for 2012 :
As JACS celebrates its
50th anniversary and the 100th anniversary of the Shonien, this is a
significant milestone in our organization's history. In the past
10 years, we have distributed $180,000 in funds to organizations and
projects. At this pivotal moment in JACS' history, the Board of
Trustees is taking time for reflection and evaluation of our current
funding programs. We will be taking a one-year hiatus during the
2012 funding cycle for the JACS General Fund and Cecilia Nakamura Arts
Fund. Funding information for the 2013 funding cycle will be
announced in Fall of 2012.
Awards Presentation 2011:
The
Board of Trustees of JACS
would like to thank the Chinese American Museum and El Pueblo de Los
Angeles Historical Monument for allowing us to
present our 2011 Grantee Reception in their beautiful historic space.
Thank you to CAM for the tour of their exciting exhibits and
expansion, and to Steve Wong for photos.
