JACS Announces
New Board Members 2009
Japanese
American
Community Services of Southern California, Inc. announced on
Wednesday three new appointments to its Board of Trustees:
Tadashi Nakamura, Craig Tomiyoshi and Brent Wauke.
JACS is a non-profit organization that provides financial
support to emerging community serivce and arts-focused organizations
and projects.
Nakamura
is an award-winning filmmaker best known for his trilogy of documentary
short films about the Asian American Movement - "Pilgrimage," "Yellow
Brotherhood" and "A Song for Ourselves." Nakamura is active
in the Asian and Pacific Islander American community, volunteering at
organizations such as Little Tokyo Service Center and Downtown
Community Media Center.
Tomiyoshi is a director at IW Group, a
marketing communications firm that focuses on the APIA markets in the
U.S. He represents several of the agency's corporate and
government clients. Tomiyoshi serves on the board of the
Nikkei Federation, and is involved with the Rising Stars, a leadership
program for high school students.
Wauke serves as the nursing home
administrator for Gardena Convalescent Center, a 24-hour skilled
nursing facility. Wauke, a South Bay native, received his
bachelor's degrea and a master's degree in gerontology from
USC. He currently serves as an advisory board member for
Trinity Vocational School.
Last year, through its general fund and the new Cecilia Nakamura Arts
Fund, JACS provided over $22,000 to various organizations, including
Japanese Community Pioneer Center, the Chinese American Museum and the
Koreatown Immigrant Workers' Alliance.
