Funding Criteria   

The application process is open to all 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations or groups with a 501(c)(3) organization as its fiscal agent, with special consideration given to projects or programs with the following characteristics:

Special consideration given to projects or programs with the following characteristics:
  • Grounded in or serving the Asian American and Pacific Islander community in Southern California, including Los Angeles, Orange, Ventura, San Bernardino and Riverside Counties, with particular emphasis on the Japanese American community.
  • If your program or project focuses on community service, health and human services, and leadership development, please check JACS General Fund on the application.
  • If your program or project focuses on cultural arts (including but not limited to, theater/performing arts, music, visual arts, literary arts, film/video, dance, folk/traditional arts, and design), please check the Cecilia Nakamura Arts Fund on the application.
  • Programs or projects in existence less than five years
  • Operating budgets less than $250,000 (excluding fiscal agent) 
Groups can apply for grants funding up to $3,500. All funding decisions are made by the Board of Trustees of JACS.  All decisions are final, and there is no appeal process.

Applications

While there are two funding sources, there is only one application form. You should specify on the application whether you are applying for the JACS General Fund or the Cecilia Nakamura Arts Fund. 

For cultural arts-related applications to the Cecilia Nakamura Arts Fund, applicants must submit a brief resume or an electronic work sample on DVD or CD. Video or music samples should not exceed 3 minutes. Written samples should not exceed 3 pages. Visual images should not exceed 3. Work samples will not be returned. 

Please complete the Application for Funding Cover Sheet, 3-page narrative and 1-page budget. 

Please note the following new information for 2010: 

  • Application for Funding Cover Sheet, narrative and itemized project budget should be submitted via email to: jacsfund@yahoo.com. 
  • Signed copy of cover sheet, IRS tax determination 501(c)(3) letter, Board of Directors list and work samples (if applicable) should be submitted by mail to:

Funding Cycle

New funding cycle for 2010:

Applications are accepted from October 1, 2009 to March 31, 2010.
Grant awards to be announced by mid-June 2010.
